factors that determine how a geode cathedral is worth:
1. Color: much like any gemstone the better the purple (deeper colour & transparency) the more a crystal is worth.
2. Crystal Size: the bigger the crystal points the better.
3. Crystal Inclusions: calcite, selenite and other secondary crystal inclusions add to value.
4. Area of Crystalization: The more crystal and less cement the better: cement is always added to the bases (and sometimes backs and sides, except the ones without the bottom part that uses wood bases) to protect any crystal area from breaking off and to allow it to stand even.
5. Shape: uniformity of shape is also a sought feature. A nice symmetry usually has a higher value.

In other words, most people want their amethyst geodes to:
1. Have dark coloured, brilliantly shiny amethyst.
2. Have thin walls so they won?t weigh so much.
3. Have amethyst crystals of good size and be well formed.
4. Have good symmetry or regular form.
5. Be free of cracks, drill holes and other defects.

However, every and each piece has its own character, which is a combination of factors that attracts one to it, and this is personal and cannot be evaluated. Others call it "energy" of the stone.
