Product quality grades are assigned based on stone clarity and colour richness.
Quality "E" is the highest quality grade (close to a gem grade) for carving. It is either or both of dark colour and mostly transparent. Quality "A" is the quality grade immediately below "E". It has the same characteristics but with less transparency and/or darkness. Quality "B", one grade below "A", has an ordinary colour you see around for most carvings, usually has very low to no transparency. Quality "C" is a quality with pale colour and no transparency.
